Dr. Richard A. Cross is the visionary Founder of The Black Male Impact and recently earned his doctorate in Higher Educational Leadership. With a career spanning over 11 years in higher education, he has held diverse roles, including First-Year Experience Instructor, Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice, Retention Specialist, and Director of Mentoring and Tutoring. His work is rooted in changing the narrative for Black men, focusing on empowerment, inspiration, and helping the next generation realize their full potential.
As an accomplished writer, Dr. Cross has published over 50 books and journals, with notable titles like "Going Beyond Limitations", "Letters to Future Black Male Educators", "The Student Oracle", and "Black Men: It’s Time to Rise". His writing and programs are dedicated to fostering leadership, positive identity, and self-motivation, particularly among underserved students.
Dr. Cross is known for his innovative approach to education, creating culturally relevant programs that support the academic success of vulnerable students while encouraging them to build a strong sense of self. His latest research on economic mobility for Black men will be published later this year, further contributing to his mission of making a lasting impact on the lives of those he mentors.
Meet Dr. Adrain A. Artary
Dr. Adrain A. Artary is a distinguished educator and leader from Atlanta, Georgia, with roots in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. He graduated as Valedictorian from D.M. Therrell School of Law, Government & Public Policy in Atlanta. Dr. Artary furthered his education at Clark Atlanta University (CAU) as a Gates Millennium Scholar, earning three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership. One of the things that is impressive about Dr. Artary is that he earned his doctoral degree at the age of 26 years old.
His doctoral dissertation, "A Qualitative Research Study on The Perceptions of High-Achieving African American Males Attending a Private HBCU Enrolled in a Selective Mentoring Program," explored the academic success factors for Black males aged 21-22. This study significantly contributes to understanding the role of cultural competence in mentoring and offers insights for school administrators to enhance African American male initiative programs.
Currently, Dr. Artary serves as a Dean of Students. His journey being a scholarship recipient to an educational leader underscores his commitment to making a difference and serving his community.
